👩‍🍳 How to make Ilish Macher Jhol

  1. Heat mustard oil in a large pan over medium-high heat (170°C).
  2. Fry fish pieces for 2 minutes per side until lightly cooked. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same oil, add onion slices. Cook for 2 minutes until soft.
  4. Add ginger paste, cook for 1 minute.
  5. Add turmeric, chilli powder, and cumin. Stir for 30 seconds.
  6. Add potatoes, stir for 1 minute.
  7. Add water, bring to boil.
  8. Add green chillies and salt.
  9. Reduce to medium (120°C). Return fish pieces to pan.
  10. Simmer for 12 minutes until potatoes are tender and fish is fully cooked.
  11. Gravy should be thin to medium consistency.
  12. Serve hot with steamed rice.
