👩‍🍳 How to make Bhapa Ilish

  1. Mix mustard paste, green chillies, ginger, turmeric, salt, and mustard oil to form thick paste.
  2. Soften banana leaf pieces by holding over open flame for 2-3 seconds per side.
  3. Place fish fillet in center of each banana leaf.
  4. Spread 2 tbsp mustard-ginger paste over each fillet.
  5. Fold banana leaf edges to form secure packet.
  6. Secure with toothpicks if needed.
  7. Place packets in steamer basket or on steaming rack over boiling water.
  8. Cover and steam over medium heat (100°C) for 15-18 minutes.
  9. Fish should be fully cooked and flaking (test with fork).
  10. Carefully remove packets from steamer (very hot).
  11. Serve hot with steamed rice.
