👩‍🍳 How to make Tamil Nadu Sambar Rice Bowl

  1. Cook toor dal soft with turmeric, reserve water
  2. Cut vegetables into medium chunks
  3. Heat oil, add mustard + asafetida (crackling 10 secs)
  4. Add curry leaves, fry 15 secs
  5. Add onion, fry until soft (2 mins)
  6. Add sambar powder, fry 2 mins (roasted aroma)
  7. Add pumpkin + carrot, sauté 3 mins
  8. Pour dal water + tamarind juice, simmer 8 mins
  9. Add cooked dal + tomato, simmer 2 mins
  10. Add salt, taste
  11. Pour sambar over white rice in bowl
  12. Serve hot - traditional sambar rice
