  1. Prepare pongal per recipe 7
  2. Cook toor dal soft in 1 cup water
  3. Heat oil, add mustard + chili + cumin (crackling)
  4. Add pumpkin + onion, sauté 3 mins
  5. Pour dal water, add turmeric + tamarind + salt
  6. Simmer 8 mins until pumpkin soft
  7. Add cooked dal, simmer 2 mins
  8. Pour sambar over warm pongal
  9. Serve together, spices fragrant
