  1. Wash rice + dal together
  2. Heat ghee, add cumin + black pepper (toasted 30 secs)
  3. Add ginger, fry 1 min
  4. Add rice + dal, toss 2 mins
  5. Pour water + salt, bring to boil
  6. Reduce heat, cover
  7. Cook 15 mins until porridge/congee consistency
  8. Add curry leaves, fold in ghee
  9. Serve warm, ghee coating visible
