  1. Rinse rice (1 min)
  2. Heat oil in pot (1 min)
  3. Add cumin, crackle 30 seconds
  4. Add asafoetida, swirl (10 seconds)
  5. Add ginger, cook 1 minute
  6. Add diced onion, cook 2 minutes
  7. Add rinsed rice, stir 1 minute
  8. Add finely diced carrot
  9. Pour water and salt
  10. Bring to boil (5 min)
  11. Reduce heat to low, cover
  12. Simmer 12 minutes
  13. Add peas (which cook quickly)
  14. Simmer 3-5 more minutes until rice is very soft
  15. Add coriander
  16. Serve hot
