  1. Rinse barley (1 min)
  2. Heat oil in pot (1 min)
  3. Add cumin, crackle 30 seconds
  4. Add asafoetida, swirl (10 seconds)
  5. Add ginger, cook 1 minute
  6. Add diced onion, cook 2 minutes
  7. Add rinsed barley, stir 1 minute
  8. Pour water and salt
  9. Bring to boil (5 min)
  10. Add minced green chilli
  11. Reduce heat to low, cover
  12. Simmer 18-20 minutes, stirring occasionally
  13. When barley grains are very soft and porridge is thick, add coriander
  14. Serve hot
